Someone Started A Petition For Missy Elliot To Replace A Confederate Monument

As the fight for the removal of controversial confederate statues in America roars on, one Portmouth, Va resident has one Hip Hop legend in mind that would certainly 'Flip it and reverse it' - Missy Elliot!

Nathan Coflin recently started an online petition, which has already garnered over 22,000 signatures and counting, calling on the city council to replace a confederate statue with 'a true Portsmouth native hero' Missy 'Misdemeanor' Elliot.

In a letter to his local council, Nathan wrote 'Who better to encapsulate the culture and spirit of the city enshrined in a new monument than Grammy Award winning rapper, dancer, and record producer Missy 'Misdemeanor' Elliott,', He continued, 'Together we can put white supremacy down, flip it and reverse it.'

Legend!

Nathan's well-worded plea has already been proving a hit on the internet with 22,506 people having now signed the peition on change.org , beating his original target of of 2,500. Due to the campaign's surprising success so far, the goal has now been raised to 25,000.

The petition follows a recent protest organised by the Coalition Of Black Americans which resulted in residents in Portsmouth assembled in front of the Confederate monument located at Court and High streets for a "Remove The Stain" rally. Proposals for the removal of the monument had been circulating since 2015 after the Charleston Church shooting where nine Emanuel AME Church members where murdered.
