Rihanna Donates $2 Million To Sierra Leone's Mudslide Victims

Bajan beut Rihanna has donated a whopping sum of money to the surviving victims of the Sierra Leone mudslide that killed nearly 500 people and injured many more.

 

The 'Work' singer donated $2m on Friday after a call for International aid was made on Monday due to the natural disaster. 

 

"It is a humanitarian gesture, an act of solidarity and support for a brotherly affected people" Rihanna said.

"My thoughts and prayers are with our brothers and sisters in Sierra Leone. My initiative Clara Lionel Foundation (CLF) is donating $2m to Sierra leone to assist and house victims of the mudslide in Freetown that has rendered people homeless. The fund is intended to provide shelter, food, clothing and medicines." the singer continued.

 

Bockarie Stevens, The Sierra Leonean Ambassador for the United States, received the donation on behalf of the country thanking Rihanna for her kind gesture and appealing to the general public for support.

 

The devastating mudslide in Sierra leone has claimed almost 500 lives since Monday also causing the country to face significant health problems a government health official announced on Friday. Around 20,000 people have been displaced by mudslide inclduing 5,000 children according to presidential spokesman Abdulai Bayraytay.

 

Alongside the mass number of deaths, Sierra Leone must also battle cholera and malaria.
