Jade Matthews Chats To British Film Maker Moses Ssebandeke

This Saturday Jade Matthews delivers a radio show with a difference, showcasing three special guests with world changing talents.

First in her interview seat will be British independant film maker, Moses Ssebandeke.

In celebration of the 70th anniversary of the NHS, Moses shines a spotlight on the historical British Hero Mary Seacole in a cinematic special.

Having watched his own mother work day and night as a nurse, Moses was inspired to explore the life of the 19th century nurse, who single-handedly travelled to the Crimean war to take care of the British soldiers. As well as delving into the brave acts of Mary seacole, the 10-minute film also commemorates other black nurses working in the NHS, both young and old, in a bid to uphold his mission of putting women of colour at the centre of his films.

Developed as part of the creative shortflix program (http://www.creativeengland.co.uk/film-and-tv/shortflix), Moses is currently trying to raise money for the film via crowdfunding ( CLICK HERE ). The money raised aims to cover the cost of location hire, costumes, cast wages, travel costs, transportation hire, props, make-up and post production costs.

Moses Ssebandeke has worked as a writer and director for the past 6 years. He has directed short films that have been shown on British National television and screened in film festivals in Hollywood. In 2013 he trained at the BBC Academy and worked with BBC radio comedy. He shot and edited the promotional video for the 2014 BBC new-comedy award. This was then shown to the BBC trust as an example of what the BBC needs to do more of.  He has worked for Radio 1 and 1Xtra in their visualisation department as well as CBBC where he produced, edited and directed content for the for Youtube and Iplayer.

He also wrote the treatment, directed and edited an interactive music video with number 1 MOBO award winning artist Stormzy.
