Beyonce Wins CFDA Fashion Icon Award

Queen B has done it again! Beyoncé has bagged herself the 2016 CFDA Fashion Icon award. Although she’s on her Formation World Tour, the singer stopped by New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom to accept her award. The singer stunned in a sparkled pinstriped Givenchy suit and a wide-brimmed black hat.

During her acceptance speech Beyoncé opened up about her early fashion struggles stating,

“When we were starting out in Destiny’s Child, high-end labels didn’t really want to dress four black, country, curvy girls. And we couldn’t afford designer dresses and couture. My mother was rejected from every showroom in New York. But like my grandmother, she used her talent and creativity to give her children their dreams.” she explained in her acceptance speech.

Beyoncé went on to compare her fashion to HBO’s Game of Thrones,

“When I wore these clothes on stage I felt like Khaleesi. I had an extra suit of armour. It was so much deeper than any brand name.”

She described fashion as “a tool for finding your own identity, expression, and strength. It transcends style and is a time capsule of all of our greatest milestones.”

Jay-Z and daughter Blue Ivy were also in attendance.
