12-Year-Old 'Moonlight' Star Plans To Spend Money On Curing Cancer

While most new-found celebrities might go a little crazy with fame, one of 'Moonlight's' younger stars, 12-year-old Alex R Hibbert has bigger plans for his first movie pay check.

When speaking with film blog heyuguys.com, the young South Florida actor revealed that not only is he working hard to help his mum retire early (we hear your heart strings playing from here), but he also wants to put his acting money into finding the cure for cancer.

“I don’t work for the fame,” he explained. “I just work for my mom. I grind for my mom, everything I do, everything I pursue is for my mom, and I’m doing this for her so she can retire. I don’t really care about the fame that much, I just wanna help my mom, and help other people that need help.”

Alex stars alongside actors Naomie Harris, Mahershala Ali and Janelle Monae amongst others in the Oscar nominated movie 'Moonlight' where he plays a character called 'Little' in a groundbreaking tale of human self discovery, tried friendships and growing up in a rough circumstances.

The 12-year-old star also detailed how acting had changed the direction of his own life, saying:

“What I wanted to do was either play football or be a scientist that cures cancer,” he continued. “In middle school I didn’t know what to do with my life. I was a bit of a bad child, I’d always get in trouble because I had a lot of movement. But the drama program settled me down, I can use my movement for good.”

He continued, “Football is out of the question now, but scientist-wise, I’m going to take most of my money. Wait, some of my money, and build a lab, and I’m going to take the best scientists to work on curing cancer and stuff like that.”
